Festival of Lights

As if to compliment the Month of Molly celebrations, this weekend the city of Barcelona put on a spectacular light show. As part of the festival of Santa Eulalia, the city participated in the first ever major festival of light. For three days the Llum-BCN (Light-Barcelona) arts program projected electric graphic designs on more than 60 buildings around the city, among them the Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter, Guadi's La Pedrera, the Arc de Triomphe, the Castell of Montjuïc, and the Town Hall.

According to the news report, Barcelona is a pioneer in works of art in urban lighting since the Universal Exhibition in 1929 when engineer Carles Buigas designed the Magic Fountain of Montjuic, another Barcelona favorite.

My roommates and I heard about the event on the evening news a few days ago, and decided it looked super cool and that we had to go. So on Saturday, my roommate Laura, my fellow teacher friend from Liverpool, Mark, and I went to the Cathedral and the Town Hall to see the show.

All of that is light projected onto the building!
How cool is that? It doesn't even look like the Town Hall anymore!
But all of these words and photos do not sufficiently describe these electric works of art. So, to your delight, I'm sure, I have provided videos below!

As you can see, it was SWEET. So I went back again on Sunday night with my other roommate Sabela to see it again. And it was even better the second time! What an unexpectedly cool weekend!

  1. That is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen on a building. I loved the Town Hall videos! This should be the first ANNUAL!
