Viaje: Sitges

After a recommendation from our course director, Lisa, my friends and I decided to spend our first sunny Saturday by taking a day trip to a small beach town near Barcelona called Sitges.

It's a quick train ride away (about 30 minutes), and boy were we happy to spend the day at the beach.

There is really not much else to do in Sitges other than relax in the sand and watch the waves (but do you really need anything other than that to do on a Saturday?!).

We did however discover that Sitges is home to the man who apparently invented Bacardi rum (there's your fun fact of the day!). They have a museum dedicated to him and everything.

Bacardi Museum

The historical marker from which I discerned that this was indeed the hometown of Mr. Bacardi.
(I didn't even know that was the name of a person?...)
(And what's with the creepy hands on the historical marker?)

 Anyways....

We spent the day walking around, taking pictures, and commenting on how dang cute everything is in this little town. I imagine it's the sort of city in which your Spanish grandma happily lives. (You should check it out, Grams!)

Oh yeah, we also ate some pretty tasty tapas, too!

Potatoes with yummy 'brava' sauce, sausages, fried squid,
fried goat cheese on bread (which was particularly tasty!)
and of course, croquetas!

yummy yummy yummy

But mostly I enjoyed sitting on the rocks, listening to the water and soaking up the sun. And as I settled in the sand to take my afternoon siesta on the beach, I had to chuckle at myself once again. "Have I really returned to this fabulous lifestyle?" I thought. But before I could answer, I fell asleep under the sun.

Not bad for my first weekend in Spain, huh?
