Comida de Domingo

It's Sunday morning here in Barcelona, and a familiar feeling weighs me down on our comfortable couch.

"I don't want to do anything," I say to my roommate, Alex.
"Then don't. It's Sunday," he coolly replies. "Sit on the couch, put on the TV, relax. It's Sunday: The day of doing nothing."

Four years of college has inevitably instilled in me a sense of obligation to productivity on Sunday. I imagine that many students, including myself, call it Sunday: The day of lots of homework you've put off all weekend. Although I am no longer a student, I still cannot help but feel guilty for sitting idly on our comfy couch. And so, apparently, I need my roommate to counter my tendencies with some Spanish ones instead.

So while I do in fact have work to do, lessons to plan and materials to prepare, I adhere to his suggestions. I sit, read a little, and watch as Alex prepares a big lunch for us.

And as he sautes the rice and vegetables and meat in a large plan, he grins and proclaims, "Comida de domingo!" which means, "Sunday food!" And I can't help but agree with the sentiment. So I finally push my work out of my head, replace it with yummy food in my belly, and relax into my Spanish lifestyle.
