Sabela received a juicy package from her parents today: a rather hefty box filled to the brim with food.
She told me that because she's a student, her parents can send her one free package every month (which I assume means the government picks up the bill for the shipping). So every month, she gets one of these. A box filled with cookies, frozen pizza, candy, baked goods, and other college student necessities.
What a cool idea! Yet another great "social service from the socialists" as my Dad likes to put it. But seriously, it is a good thought.
Watching Sabela unpack her box of treats made me a tad homesick, especially since it is so close to my birthday. I remember the happiness of receiving packages while at school. My Grandma even used to send me homemade cookies on holidays.
But alas, those days as a student are gone, at least for the moment. And I am across an ocean, which makes sending packages a bit more complicated, not to mention expensive. And so any expectation of birthday packages is long gone.
So at least for now, I will be content with enjoying some of Sabela's junk food and looking forward to a time of more packages in the future.
Whoa that must be a fast package if you can send frozen pizzas...
