I said my first farewell today to the class in which I volunteer.
As a going away present, I got to teach them a little bit about how we celebrate Christmas in the States, and also how to sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
Explaining to them why it is sad to eat the head off of a Gingerbread Man. |
It was really terrible to leave them. Many of them pleaded with me ("Don't leave us, Molly. Don't leave us!) and held my hands to try and prevent me from exiting the room. But what's worse, on my way out, they all came and gave me kisses. I almost died.
Although they don't know it, these kids have also been a large part of my life here in Sevilla. I have enjoyed every morning with them, and have learned a lot from them (including vocabulary words, like "seta" which means "mushroom." Very useful!) They put a smile on my face for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday, and I will dearly miss them.
